2 CTG members surrender to authorities in Aurora before 52nd anniversary of NPA

Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija – Two former Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) members will no longer celebrate the anniversary of the NPAs in the mountains of Aurora province, as they decided to surrender voluntarily to the troops of the 91st Infantry "Sinagtala" Battalion (91IB) and the personnel of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) at Bravo Company, Brgy. Dibaraybay, Dinalungan, Aurora on March 28, 2021.
Lieutenant Colonel Reandrew P. Rubio, the commander of 91IB, identified the 2 CTG members as Renier Lopez Gomez, alias “Datu”, 33 years old, a resident of Sitio Paraiso, Barangay Culat, Casiguran, Aurora, and Mariano Guerrero Corpuz, alias “Alvin/Vino”, 34 years old, married, and a resident of Barangay Lawang, Dilasag, Aurora. Both are former members of the Domingo Erlando Command in the province of Aurora.
“The surrender and capture of top-ranking officials and members of the CTG in the province of Aurora have demoralized its remaining members, having no more reason for them to celebrate their founding anniversary and its deceptive cause,” said LTC Rubio.
The two CTG confessed to the authorities that they are already outnumbered due to the successive surrenders of red fighters and the vanishing support of the masses to the terrorist organization.
Last week, an abandoned CTG’s lair which was believed to be owned by the remnants of Komiteng Larangang Gerilya Sierra Madre (KLG-SM) was seized by the troops of 91IB together with the 1st Police Mobile Force Company at the boundary of Barangay Bazal and Diaat, Maria Aurora.
On March 13, the notorious Secretary of KLG-SM, identified as Rommel Tucay, died following an exchange of gunfire during the service of Warrant of Arrest by the authorities in Brgy. Kimbutan, Dupax Del Sur, Nueva Vizcaya, while a 62-year-old former CTG leader identified as Delfin Pimentel facing multiple criminal cases was arrested in Brgy. Ditumabo, San Luis Aurora by the joint forces of 91IB, CIDG, and PNP Aurora on March 3. On the other hand, three members of the Sectoral Front Organization in Aurora have cut their support with the CTG.
LTC Rubio said that 2nd Lieutenant Josua A. Aurelio, Bravo Coy Executive Officer, facilitated the withdrawal of support of Randy T. Cortina, 51 years old, married, resident of KM 16, Barangay Calaocan, Dipaculao; Marilou R. Paderes, 53 years old, married, resident of Purok 7, Barangay Calaocan, Dipaculao; and Carding D. Mendoza, 30 years old, married, a resident of Purok 7 Calaocan, Dipaculao at the vicinity of Barangay Calaocan, Dipaculao, Aurora.
Meanwhile, the commander of the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army Major General Alfredo V. Rosario Jr., welcomed the surrender of the two CTG members a day before the NPA 52nd Anniversary and said that this development is an indication of the success of the government’s thrust to put an end to the local communist armed conflict and convince remaining CTG members to return to the folds of the law.
“Ang inyong kusang pagbabalik-loob ay ituring ninyong pangalawang pagkakataon upang maituwid ang inyong buhay kasama ang inyong pamilya. Pahalagahan niyo itong pagkakataon na ibinibigay ng gobyerno at maging kasama ng buong kumonidad sa pag-unlad at pagbabago,” Maj. Gen. Rosario Jr. said.
