IP community in Tarlac enjoys free basic services

Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija – Indigenous People (IP) were given free services during an outreach program conducted in Sitio Pokis, Barangay Maasin, San Clemente, Tarlac, on September 21, 2019.

Three hundred twenty-three (323) IP’s, specifically those from Sitios Pokis and Dueg, both of Brgy. Maasin, benefitted from the outreach program.

The KaAgape Foundation and the BIGKIS Task Force spearheaded the successful outreach program, in cooperation with the following units/agencies: 3rd Mechanized Infantry (MAKATARUNGAN) Battalion, 7th Infantry (KAUGNAY) Division, Philippine Army; Armor Division Medical and Dental Team; LGUs of San Clemente; Tarlac Provincial Health Office; Dominican College of Capas, Tarlac; and, San Clemente, Tarlac Municipal Police Station.

The services rendered were free medical and dental check-up, giving of assorted clothing and feeding. To keep the IP children entertained, a story-telling activity was also conducted.

The activity aims to intensify the stakeholders’ convergence, in line with the government’s whole-of-nation approach to protect the well-being of geographically isolated and disadvantaged communities being exploited by the CPP-NPA-Terrorists (CNT).

Lieutenant Colonel Norberto P. Aromin Jr., Commanding Officer of the 3rd Mech Bn, said that the unit has always wanted to improve the welfare of IPs by bringing to them the services of the government and people’s organizations.

“This is the two-fold effect of E.O. 70,” said Major General Lenard T. Agustin, Commander of the Army’s 7th Infantry (KUAGNAY) Division.

“By implementing the ‘whole of nation approach’, we not only solve insurgency, we get to address the gaps in the delivery of social services and enhance its distribution to those who are marginalized and who need it the most,” the 7ID Commander added.
