Gov. Umali approves 150,000-worth livelihood for Former Rebels

Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija – Eighteen (18) Former rebels (FRs) will soon receive additional livelihood worth 150,000 pesos as Governor Aurelio Umali signed its proposal on September 19, 2019 at the Provincial Capitol of Nueva Ecija in Palayan City.

The approved livelihood projects for the FRs will be coming from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) headed by Ms. Elvira S. Ronquillo.

Aside from the Provincial Capitol and PSWDO, another partner organization whose efforts greatly contributed in the release of benefits for the FRs is the Philippine Army, particularly 84th Infantry (VICTORIOUS) Battalion and the 7th Civil Military Operations (7CMO) Battalion, both of the 7th Infantry (KAUGNAY) Division.

It was Lieutenant Colonel Honorato S. Pascual Jr., 84IB Commanding Officer, who directly coordinated with the PSWDO to ensure that the 18 FRs will get the much needed livelihood. His battalion was the main effort that convinced the rebels back then to surrender and start anew.

Lieutenant Colonel Ulysis V. Laude, the 7CMO Commanding Officer, said that the FRs truly deserved the additional livelihood for they initiated and organized the creation of a cooperative in the Municipality of Carranglan, Nueva Ecija.

The cooperative was named “Carranglan Sandigan Association” and has been duly registered at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

The 7ID Commander, Major General Lenard T. Agustin, was happy to hear of the 18 FRs’ initiative and congratulated the group on their creation and registration of the Carranglan Sandigan Association.

“It is in moments like this that I am thankful and proud of being a military officer. Hearing former rebels doing good and initiating something that could help their fellowmen is a very heartwarming compensation for all of our efforts and sacrifices in waging a peaceful war to convert those who have been misled. I am so proud of all of you, especially to those who were instrumental in convincing them to once again put their trust and support in the government. I am also very thankful to Gov. Umali for approving the livelihood proposal and for supporting our fight against the local communist armed conflict,” Major General Agustin said.
