Municipal Task Force to End Local Communists Armed Conflict created in Zaragosa, Nueva Ecija

    Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija – A Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) was created in Zaragosa, Nueva on August 20, 2019.

    Mayor Efren Nieves of Zaragosa signed the Executive Order creating the MTF-ELCAC for their Municipality, in a meeting held on August 20, with his local chief executives.

    During the meeting, Lieutenant Colonel Arcadio S. Posada, Commander of the 69th Infantry Battalion, discussed the Executive Order No. 70 or the “Whole-of-Nation Approach” in ending local communist armed conflict. He cited the importance of EO 70 in attaining sustainable peace and creating a Task Force to end insurgency. He also explained RA 10168 or the Terrorism Financing, and the Suppression Act of 2012 which was supplemented by the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Memo Circulars 211 and 130 series of 2018, stressing its importance to address the local armed conflicts in the community.

    After the meeting, the committee agreed to draft a resolution and signed it to show their support to the efforts of the National Government to end the insurgency, especially in their municipality. Through this, the Executive Order No. 015 series of 2019 was adopted under the National Security Policy 2017-2022, creating MTF-ELCAC for the Municapality of Zaragosa.

    Major General Lenard T. Agustin, Commander of the 7th Infantry (KAUGNAY) Division, Philippine Army commended the members of the Municipal Peace and Order Council of Zaragosa for their aggressiveness to end the local communist armed conflict in their municipality. He also expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the support they have given to the 703rd Brigade and the 69IB in their endeavor to make Zaragoza, and the rest of the province fo Nueva Ecija, an insurgency-free area.

    “Only last August 14, the Municipality of Quezon, Nueva Ecija created their own MTF-ELCAC. I am happy to see the positive and quick response of other municipalities to work with the Government and the Philippine Army in our whole-of-nation approach in ending local communist armed conflict,” added Major General Agustin.

    Relatedly, Lieutanant Colonel Posada said, “With the creation of Zaragosa’s MTF-ELCAC, we are looking forward and calling other Local Government Units of other municipalities and barangays to also do the same, in order to totally eradicate the menace that destroys our economy and abuse our democracy. Everybody must do their share as what E.O. 70 wants us to do.”
