Kabataang Makabayan President Surrenders to 24IB

A Kabataang Makabayan Chapter President surrendered to the 24th Infantry (Wildcat) Battalion at its Headquarters in Sitio Barbarit, Barangay Tagodtod, Lagangilang, Abra on August 19, 2019.

Kabataang Makabayan is an underground movement under the cloak of the Communist Party of the Philippines. It was founded by Jose Maria Sison on November 30, 1964.

Genebeth S. Balicao, 22 years old and a resident of Barangay Butneg, Lacub, Abra, voluntarily surrendered to the 24IB. She is the President of the Kabataang Makabayan-Lacub, Abra Chapter and is also a member of New People’s Army’s Milisyang Bayan.

Through the intercession of well-meaning and peace loving personalities who coordinated with 24IB Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Jearie Boy P. Faminial, Balicao finally mustered the courage to surrender at the 24IB Headquarters.

She is currently under the protection of 24IB, while her application to avail of the Enhanced Local Integration Program benefits is on process.

Major General Lenard T. Agustin, Commander of the Army’s 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, lauded the decision of Balicao to return to mainstream society and focus on being a productive citizen.

“Right now, there is a Senate inquiry regarding the missing students who were recruited into the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG).

Further, he said that by showing the youth how they can be instrumental in the pursuit of peace, through a “whole of nation approach”, the government and our society may yet rescue the youth, who are in the throes of youthful idealism gone astray, from a bleak and disastrous future in the hands of the NPA.
