7ID Supports Government’s National Greening Program

    Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija – The 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division went all out in its support to the Government’s National Greening Program as it participated in several tree planting activities this week.

    In Tarlac City, the 3rd Mechanized Infantry (Makatarungan) Battalion, in collaboration with the City Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO-Tarlac) and the Local Government Unit of Tarlac City, conducted a Tree Growing Activity on August 14, 2019.

    The 31st Mechanized Infantry (PERSIAN) Company under Captain Rizalito M. Espineli Jr, Commanding Officer; Tarlac City Police Station led by Police Master Sergeant Marites T. Padilla; and Bigkis Task Force headed by Pastor Felix Cabugnason planted 65 assorted fruit-bearing trees at Balete Elementary School, Don Pepe Cojuanco Elementary School, Cut-Cut II Elementary School and Bantog Elementary School, all of Tarlac City.

    Early this morning (August 16), troops from Headquarters 7ID, PA led by Brigadier General Bismarck D. Soliba AFP, Assistant Division Commander, 7ID, participated in the “Sierra Madre Greening Program Annual Tree Planting – The Final Push”.

    The tree planting took place at the Upper Tabuating Reservoir Irrigation Project in General Tinio, Nueva Ecija.

    Spearheading the activity was Engr. Isidro T. Pajarillaga, the Municipal Mayor of General Tinio. It was supported by several local government unit officers from the municipalities of Cabiao, Peñaranda, and Gapan.

    Heads of the national government agencies were also present during the event, such as Secretary Roy A. Cimatu of the Department of Environment and Natural resources (DENR); Undersecretary Benny Antiporda of the DENR; Ricardo R. Visaya, Administrator of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA); and Engr. Ariel Domingo, NIA Division Manager III.

    According to Engr. Pajarillaga, the Sierra Madre Greening program has so far succeeded in planting 40,000 trees from the first half of the program. Today, a total of 5,000 trees were planted by 800 participants for the final leg of the program.

    Major General Lenard T. Agustin, the 7ID Commander who was not able to attend the event as he presided over the change of command ceremony of the 81st Infantry Battalion in Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur, had a message for the Sierra Madre Greening Program: “Each of us has a responsibility towards the preservation of our environment and natural resources, for we all live and thrive in one country. Let us do what we can to restore our forests. Help protect the Sierra Madre and other mountain ranges from erosion and denudation so our people in the lowlands will not be affected and ecological balance is preserved. Thank you for making us a part of this worthy endeavor. The Philippine Army will always be here to provide support whenever you need us.”
