7ID “Kaugnay” Division turns 31, celebrates with peace stakeholders

    Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija-The 7th Infantry “Kaugnay” Division, Philippine Army celebrated its 31st Founding Anniversary with peace stakeholders on August 1, 2019 at its Headquarters in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija.

    The celebration started with a thanksgiving mass which was attended by the KAUGNAY troops and their dependents, with Major General Lenard T. Agustin AFP, Commander, 7ID.

    After the mass, a wreath-laying ceremony led by Major General Agustin followed, honoring the late President Ramon Magsaysay, at the shrine erected in his honor, in front of the 7ID Headquarters.

    The special guest during the ceremony was the great-grandson of the late President Magsaysay, Miguel Francisco “Mikey” Watanabe Magsaysay.

    Then, another wreath-laying ceremony followed, honoring the fallen heroes of 7ID. The ceremony was led by Lieutenant General Ramiro Manuel A. Rey AFP, Commander, Northern Luzon Command, and assisting him was Major General Agustin.

    After the wreath-laying ceremony for the fallen heroes, the blessing of the anterior in front of division headquarters was held, after which, the blessing of the G2 quarter was also conducted.
    It was followed by the program proper of the anniversary held at the 7ID Grandstand, where the Commanding General of the Philippine Army, Lieutenant General Macairog S. Alberto AFP, was the Guest of Honor Speaker.

    The highlight of the anniversary celebration was the giving of awards to deserving personnel, and civilian stakeholders.

    The following are the awardees for their achievement in combat: PFC Oliver S. Serut (Inf) PA -Gold Cross Medal, Staff Sergeant Mario N. Apostol (Inf) PA - Silver Cross Medal, 1st Lieutenant Arnold A. Quiñon (FS) PA-Military Merit Medal Bronze Spearhead Device, 2ND Lieutenant Fritz A. Entoma -Military Merit Medal With Bronze Spearhead Device, and CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) Nick G. Viernes- Military Merit Medal With Bronze Spearhead Device.

    Moreover, the following were chosen as the best performing officer, enlisted man, CAA, and civilian employee, respectively: Captain Herbert P. Montenegro (MI) PA – Best Officer 2019, Staff Sergeant Rolando G. Bentoso (MI) PA – Best Enlisted Personnel 2019, CAA Allen O. Tangangeo PA – Best CAA 2019, and Ms Rose Ann E. Cuevas –Best Civilian Employee 2019.

    While the following stakeholders were recognized for their immeasurable contributions to the 7ID accomplishments: Director Nathaniel V. Lacambra, CESO III, Regional Director, DOLE-Region 1; Honorable Lilia G. Pineda, Vice Governor, Province of Pampanga; Honorable Guilbert P. Ballangan, Municipal Mayor, Tubo, Abra; Honorable Crisostomo Cunanan-Garbo, City Mayor, Mabalacat City, Pampanga;
    Honorable Reynaldo V. Paulino, Brgy Chairman, Antipolo, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija;
    Honorable Victor M. Badar, Municipal Mayor, Nampicuan, Nueva Ecija; Police Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Robert C. Rongavilla PNP, Provincial Chief, CIDG, Nueva Ecija; Dr. Isabelle Cojuangco-Suntay, Chairperson, Tarlac Heritage Foundation; Atty. Lush Yvanne C. Yamashita, CEO, Magenta Wellness Group; Ms. Kresta Ann Kria P. Destura, CEO, Destura Construction and Interior Design Services; Ms. Sonia M. Capio, President, Central Luzon Media Association, Nueva Ecija Chapter; and Ms. Carmelita B. Bersalona, Executive Director, In-Hand Abra Foundation, Inc.

    Lastly, the following unit and offices were also recognized for having achieved the Army Governance Pathway Proficient Stage and the 7ID Army Governance Pathway Proficient Stage, respectively: 7Military Intelligence Battalion; the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, G2; Governance and Strategy Management Office; Gender and Development Office and the Office of the Inspector General, 7ID.

    In attendance were the following prominent military officers: Lieutenant General Ramiro Manuel A. Rey AFP, Commander, Northern Luzon Command; Major General Divino Rey C. Pabayo Jr., Commander, AFP Special Operations Command; Major General Reynaldo M. Aquino, Vice Commander, Philippine Army; Brigadier General Bismarck D. Soliba AFP, Assistant Division Commander, 7ID; Brigadier General Pascual Luis D. Bedia AFP, Assistant Division Commander, Mechanized Division; Colonel Julius A. Tominez (MNSA), Director, Maneuver Center Training and Doctrine Command and the staffs of the said officers.

    Also present were the Brigade Commanders of 7ID, namely; Brigadier General Henry A. Robinson Jr. AFP, Commander 702nd Infantry (Defender) Brigade; Brigadier General Rowen S. Tolentino AFP, Commander, 703rd Infantry (Agila) Brigade; and Brigadier General Manuel V. Sequitin AFP, Commander 701st Infantry (Kagitingan) Brigade. With them are the eleven Battalion Commanders of the Command.

    The ceremony was also attended by Lieutenant General Romeo P. Tolentino AFP (Ret), former Commander of 7ID, and Commanding General of the Philippine Army; and Brigadier General Henry G. Sabarre AFP (Ret), former General Officer In-charge of 7ID.

    On the part of Philippine National Police, present during the ceremony were: Police Brigadier General Joel S. Orduña PNP, Police Brigadier General Jose Mario M. Espino PNP, Police Brigadier General Joel Napoleon M Coronel PNP, Police Brigadier General Israel Ephraim P. Dickson PNP, Regional Directors of PRO1, PRO2, PRO3 and PROCOR, respectively.

    Several stakeholders were also in attendance to include: Dr. Virginia G. Sacramento PhD, Chairperson, 7ID Multi-Sector Advisory Board, with her are other members of the board; and the Local Chief Executives of General Tinio, Sta Rosa, Palayan City, Laur, Cabanatuan Peñaranda, Caranglaan, and Gapan, all of Nueva Ecija.

    Mikey Magsaysay in his message during the wreath-laying said, his grandfather, former Senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr. is grateful to all the work that KAUGNAY troopers do and for remembering their family despite the passing of years. Moreover, he continued that his grandfather appreciated the gesture of the 7ID for honoring the memory of his father, the late President Ramon Magsaysay.

    In his parting message, he said, “I am very honored to see the immense respect that my great-grandfather has earned from outstanding soldiers like you. May you continue to be inspired by his examples and serve our country and people for the greatest amount of integrity and excellence.”

    In his message during the wreath-laying ceremony for the late President Magsaysay, Major General Lenard T. Agustin AFP, Commander, 7ID said, “The greatest credits we can repay our beloved President Magsaysay, are to re-demonstrate and re-dedicate ourselves to the ideals of our country and for our people.”

    Further, upon proudly enumerating the accomplishments of the Command in his speech during the anniversary celebration proper, he said, “Thank you for giving the Command a reason to celebrate. And let us thank the Lord for providing us with the skills, talents and wisdom to face and handle any and all challenges that will come our way.”

    On the Part of Lieutenant General Macairog S. Alberto AFP, Commanding General Philippine Army urged team KAUGNAY to continue in playing vital roles in sustaining the peace in the Command’s area of responsibility. He also counseled the troops to learn from the lessons of the past year’s highlights and challenges to do better in the days ahead.

    He specifically acknowledged the awardees for the excellent performance of their duties, and said, “Congratulations and keep up the good work, may you serve as inspirations to other members of team KAUGNAY, so that they too will excel in their own service.”

    Lt General Alberto also extended his warmest thanks and congratulations to the stakeholder awardees for the support they have given to the KAUGNAY troopers.

    In conclusion he said, “Let us work harder and better to make the Philippine Army a responsive force that the Filipino people can be proud of. Together we are closer to our goal of being a world class Army that is a source of national pride.”
