7ID Participates in NSED, Ready for Calamity

FORT MAGSAYSAY, NUEVA ECJIA – The 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army, took part in the country’s 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) today at 2 p.m. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) leads the conduct of NSED quarterly and requires all government agencies, such as the Philippine Army, and the public to join the drill. 7ID simulated rescue and response on the five earthquake scenarios such as the explosion at the gasoline facility inside the camp, fire incident at ammunition dam, erosion of dike at the Pahingahan Dam, rescue operation at the Division Training School (DTS) and rescue operation at a collapsed admin building. New to the usual scenarios conducted by 7ID are the mockups of events at Pahingahan Dam and DTS where soldiers will execute rappelling and utilize the motor boat for water rescue. The simulation is done to test, validate and evaluate the 7ID’s preparedness, with plans still based on the duck, cover and hold concept. “The quarterly NSED is necessary for it prepares us for the worst possible scenario, so that our troops will know how to handle whatever situation comes up. We aim to be ready, fast and effective in our response to help the people when disaster strikes, and be able to mitigate whatever harm it brings,” said Brigadier General Lenard T Agustin AFP, Commander of 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army. He also said that the soldiers continue to hone their skills through such exercise and trainings like the Disaster Rescue Operations to be reliable responders to any form of calamity.
